About me:
I teach Art (Grades 8-12) in the North Vancouver. I came to teaching later in life after having children, and found it the perfect balance between developing my own interest and practice in art, and the socio-educational stimulation that classrooms generate. The classroom is an amazing place! So my undergrad studies in Graphic Design, Art History, and Technology acted as a platform for everything else. I was able to teach and learn at a number of different schools; both resourced and under resourced schools with vastly different capacities, structural organization and demographic. Being born and raised in South Africa gave me an understanding of what resilience means in education and how political, social and economic agenda’s influence curriculum theory.
Favourite pastimes include grabbing my paints and sitting outdoors in an open landscape observing nature. Walks – (hill hikes with people who don’t mind stopping to look at things) and using the perfect spice combinations in the kitchen to create something wonderful and delicious! Actually feeding people….that’s probably the agenda here. Its a great way to spend time.
I’m interested in the Course: Integrated Planning, Instructions and Assessment – 810, because while I am constantly engaging with curriculum I recognize my need for a deeper understanding for how it works – so I can confidently support the way my practice develops with theory to support it.
Oh ! and Songololo – This is an insect with a gazillion shiny, black circular shells in its frame, it is long like a millipede, has as many legs and feelers. It is a favorite childhood critter -and seems to represent several symbols for me….which I can easily connect with the course. If you disturb it – a songololo will protect itself by curling inwards in a perfect spiral – until danger is past.
